It’s funny how we could go through days without speaking, and then when we see each other, sparks fly like crazy. We fill in everything we missed about each other, that the time we were apart was worth it after all, ‘cause seeing each other made up for every second that we were apart. And whenever I’d feel bad about you, you knew how to pull me back in.
I just didn’t get the part where we hit if off the last time we were together, then we went through the usual cycle. But this time, the days turned into weeks, and  now I’m counting the days when it will officially turn into months.
As I waited for the next time, hoping it will turn everything around like it always does, I got tired of waiting and as I looked back I realized, why did I even compromise. I was willing to risk everything for the thrill of it. Then, I found myself risking too much.
And I guess because of it, I stopped missing you.

Yours,
Summer Angel

Oh, the thrill of it all!

Last weekend was SoFA’s Neon-themed term ender party. Everyone looked stunningly…BRIGHT? I actually had a hard time picking an outfit ‘cause I rarely wear neon, thus I don’t have neon clothes! Good thing I found something lying around. But yeah the party was a blast! Good music, and great company! :)

Here are some photos from the party.

I got my chain necklace from a hardware store, top & vest thrifted, tights from Peace Love Fashion, and owl bag from TRF.

I super enjoy themed parties because it makes dressing up more fun. And when you get together in different characters, personalities, and what have you, it’s more exciting! That’s the thing about themed parties, everything and anything is possible, your only limitation is your imagination!

Here are some of the themed parties I’ve been to:

Hollywood Night

L-R: Cruella de Ville, Britney Spears, Princess Leia, Lara Croft

Cartoon Network

Nineties

Jejemon (would you believe?)

CHASING (& KISSING) PAVEMENTS
I had my first wipeout on my Surf & Turf today.
I was skating down an empty street—no house, no cars. Just a steep hill and the wind pushing you further. I went down that hill, the steepest I’ve tried so far. Right in the middle of it, I was going too fast that I couldn’t even carve, the wind pushed me to go even faster. When I realized that the board was wobbling, I jumped out of it and landed on my feet. I tried to catch my balance by running but I fell CHIN FIRST.
It took around 5 seconds for everything to sink in. I checked myself—bleeding palms, torn shirt, scraped hips, and swollen chin.
I then got to thinking that I definitely overanalyzed my capabilities and rushed into that I couldn’t handle. The lesson? RELAKS LANG, you’ll get there!
If you’d ask me, I’d say I’d do it again.
WALANG KAPALIT!

[Flash 10 is required to watch video]

This is the video that we used as a promotional tactic for The Madame Noir collection in our Fashion & The Arts (FashArt) finals.

We shot at the American Cemetery at the Fort, SECRETLY! It was pretty risk, good think we were sneaky like that! It took me hours to edit this and weeks to look for perfect snippets from different movies, TV shows, and music videos. Try to recognize some of them.

This is supposed to be a trailer for a short film entitled “The Tale of Madame Noir”.

Madame Noir’s lover was killed in action during the WWII. However, she didn’t mourn like the usual widows would. She stripped off those flapper dress and gowns, and would dress different when she would visit her lover’s tomb. Her outfit was a lot different from what women wore during her time. A chance encounter with Christian Dior in the cemetery changed everything…it influenced “THE NEW LOOK”, which turned out to be Dior’s first collection and a major phenomenon among women.

FINALS WEEK: THE SLEEPLESS WEEK THAT WAS

At the beginning of the term, they said be prepared for sleepless nights. I didn’t know they meant it to the extremes.

The past 2 weeks was STRESS! Fun stress, I must say. For the 6 subjects that I have in SoFA (School of Fashion and the Arts), all of them required a comprehensive final exam, in project form. It was really hard work but it is when you love what you’re doing that you actually enjoy that feeling of stress.

So here’s the detailed breakdown of our final projects:

For Roots of Philippine Fashion, we were to make an avant garde Filipino-inspired outfit in a mini dress form. I decided to make a modern take on the Filipiniana Terno by adding volume, draping, and other details. My inspiration for this dress is the classic Filipino past time, cockfighting or sabong. I amped up the trademark butterfly sleeves with feathers, like what a rooster would have. I twisted the bust area, and draped the skirt. I used grey cotton jersey for the top & sleeves, and a mix of black cotton jersey & chiffon for the skirt. I had a sewer help me sew the sleeves, and then the rest was just basic draping. And here’s the outcome:

Mine was one of the few that got exhibited in school, YIPEE! :)

For Fashion Merchandising, we were asked to add a new line to an existing local brand.  As we all know, there is no existing local lingerie line in the major retail brands in the Philippines, not the bra & panty kind but rather the Victoria’s Secret type of intimates. So, my partner, Dan Duran and  I decided to add a lingerie line for Kamiseta. It was quite a difficult task since we had to come up with a 4-6 piece collection for 4 seasons, materials and costing included for every garment! Aside from that we had to have promotional tactics, company profile, and so much more. This is all pretend. Here’s a sneak peek of our project:

For our ad campaign, we chose Rachel Bilson because of her fun and casual vibe + her Filipino roots. Again, this is just pretend. This actually an editorial from an issue of GQ magazine.

My favorite, and the most stressful of them all would be for Ms. Amina’s Fashion and the Arts class. We were supposed to come up with our own brand, inspired by an international designer’s aesthetic and an art movement. We also have to come up with a company profile, a mood board, a 6-piece collection, and promotional tactics. To top it all of, we have to submit a comprehensive written report, and present our brand to the class and a panel. We chose French Designer Christian Dior and the Baroque art movement. Our company is called House of Boudoir. The collection is called The Madame Noir Collection, highly inspired by Dior’s post-war new look. I’m glad that we were able to impress Ms. Amina, despite her high standards, and she actually said it was “one of the best”! :)

Here’s some of the stuff that we did:

We also have a short film, starring Patricia Prieto as Madame Noir which I will post soon.

Exams in other subjects were equally difficult. For pattern making class, we had to make a basic bodice pattern, and make a top out of it. For Textiles class, we made a swatch kit, composed of at least 50 swatches, with their fabric composition, construction, finishing, care instructions, and uses. Lastly, for Fashion Illustration class, I made this and got a 98! I actually thought I was gonna fail Fillus but thank god I made it! :)

So, that’s the SLEEPLESS WEEK that was! I’m glad we were able to get out of it alive, and in flying colors! :)

Right now, I am enjoying every bit of my term break…and by enjoying I mean doing nothing. No sarcasm there! :) I want to bask in the nothingness of this week, ‘cause next week, it’s back to school once again. Not to mention, the Licensure Exam for Teacher (LET) is on the 26th of September! So it’s gonna be a really busy week next week!

Surf & Turf

Riding my Surf & Turf is all I’ve been doing all week, alone in the morning and with Berns until the wee hours at night! Now I understand how people can say “All I wanna do is skate!”. Cause when I wake up, the first thing I do is wear my jeans, my shirt, my sneakers and skate around.

I was telling Berns a while ago that by the end of the month, we must bomb that hill that we’ve been afraid to skate (for now). We chicken out in the middle of riding it but I think that’s what’s fun about it, after you conquer that fear, you’re out to challenge yourself to a greater one. And it just doesn’t end, and that stoked feeling just becomes something you just can’t get enough of. Fuck yeah, we can live like this!

This is just the beginning, I am out to chase more pavements! :)

Oh, California in the Summer
Ah, and my hair is growing long
Fuck yeah, we can live like this
But if you left it up to me
Everyday would be
A holiday from real

We’d waste our weeks Beneath the sun urf
We’d fry our brains
And say it’s so much fun out here
But when it’s all over
I’ll come back for another year

Oh, it’s a picture of perfection
Ah, and the postcards gonna read
“Fuck yeah we can live like this…
We can live like this”
